17  ^aO ye fair ones, how could ye have departed from the ways of the Lord! O ye fair ones, how could ye have rejected that Jesus, who stood with open arms to receive you!

  5  But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God ^cunrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)

  1  And now, my son, I perceive there is somewhat more which doth worry your mind, which ye cannot understand—which is concerning the justice of God in the punishment of the sinner; for ye do try to suppose that it is ^cinjustice that the sinner should be consigned to a state of misery.
